It may be a few years old, but this interview with Oscar winning cinematographer Wally Pfister on DP/30 is well worth a watch. He has become best known for his enduring partnership with Christopher Nolan, he has been DP on all of his titles since Memento. Although he wont be behind the camera for Nolan’s next picture ‘Interstellar’ as he is making his directorial debut with ‘Transcendence‘ (which looks really excellent).
The interview gives great insight into a range of topics – following his beginnings in film school at AFI and his career progression from erotic thrillers to some of the biggest blockbusters ever produced. As well as this, he speaks about his working relationship with Nolan, cinematography techniques, film vs digital, IMAX camera systems – to name a few.
