Well, director Wim Wenders got that opportunity while at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival, and subsequently made a documentary about it. 16 iconic directors, including Jean-Luc Godard, Steven Spielberg,Werner Herzog, and Rainer Werner Fassbinder, were asked a series of questions about the future of the film industry, as well as the art form itself, and their answers became an incredible 44-minute video compendium of cinematic knowledge. Indiewire recently posted a fascinating interview with Gareth Edwards, the British director Gareth Edwards. In 2010 he was a rookie British director who went to SXSW with “Monsters,” a low-budget passion project he wrote, directed, shot and did the visual effects for. It may be a few years old, but this interview with Oscar winning cinematographer Wally Pfister on DP/30 is well worth a watch. He has become best known for his enduring partnership with Christopher Nolan, he has been DP on all of his titles since Memento. Although he wont be behind the camera for Nolan’s next picture ‘Interstellar’ as he is making his directorial debut with ‘Transcendence‘ (which looks really excellent).
